Our Creed:
Are you ready to enter the Adventure Writers Competition? Good! Now hear this: we exist for one purpose only: to help all writers who enter get some feedback, and to get a chance to meet some industry people! You can use the experience as a stepping stone to further your writing career, and to validate that you can write good (joke intended). We just like to help people. All fees collected or donated are used to promote the entrants and the competition. No one here makes anything on this. Many lose money. Insane but true. We don't even pay expenses. |
Why are we different? We are the only contest we know of that focuses on Adventure Writing! Whether you write like the Grandmaster himself, Clive Cussler, or have your own action-packed style - get on board and enter!
PRIZES for 2024!
We know you just want validation of your talent and some bragging rights, but due to the kindness and generosity of the Cussler family, there are cash prizes and some other goodies!*

The 2023 Adventure Writers Competition winner is:
The Antidote by A.W. Baldwin October 7, 2023, Denver, CO, USA
Dirk Cussler, New York Times best-selling author, has chosen "The Antidote" by A.W. Baldwin as the 2023 Adventure Writers Competition "Grandmaster" Award Winner. "It just gets tougher every year, and this year was no exception," said Dirk Cussler, our Grandmaster Judge. "The quality of the manuscripts is top-notch." A.W. Baldwin was surprised at the win and thanked the judges and his fellow finalists, J.L. Hancock and James Weber. Andrew holds the title of a four-time finalist in the AWC, and his body of work speaks for itself. "Truly incredible to make the finals four times," added AWC Director Peter Greene. "Any of his books could have won in previous years, and that just speaks to the high quality of all the submissions we receive." |
The AWC would like to thank all who entered the 2023 Adventure Writers Competition. "This is a very focused and rigorous competition," said AWC Submissions Director Eve Simpson, "with over a dozen judges, each reading all of the entries we received from ten countries this year. Many of our judges are authors or publishers who understand what writing a full-length novel is like, and they appreciate your effort." Jeff Edwards, our Master AWC judge, and Inaugural "Clive Award" winner, said, "This is the premier writing competition for adventure novels. It is an honor to stand with these fantastic writers. A great accomplishment!" Finalist J.L. Hancock, in attendance at the award ceremony during the Clive Cussler Collector's Society Convention, said: "Being part of this has been a tremendous boost in confidence and motivation. I'm sincerely grateful to have stumbled across this contest and community!" His entry, "The Hawk Enigma" is in query stage. |
Likewise, finalist Keith James said: "It's been a great experience and I can honestly say, the advantage of not winning is that I get to try again next year!" Keith's first book of his "Sean Webb Thriller" series is a possible entry!
All our entrants are to be congratulated. "Writing a full-length novel can take years," said publisher Sven Gillhoolie. "It takes determination, stamina and a boat-load of creativity. Bravo! Now keep writing, keep improving and success will follow. Knock our socks off!" The Adventure Writers Competition opens January 1, 2024 for submissions. Please see www.adventurewriterscompetition.com for more details and the rules to follow and the procedure to submit your novels! Here to adventure! |
